An ambulance on an emergency call has crashed and overturned while taking a patient to hospital.

Police said they were called to the dramatic collision between the emergency vehicle and a car in Romford, east London, shortly after 11.30am on Thursday.

No serious injuries have been reported following the smash at the junction between South Street and Oldchurch Road, a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said.

She said: “The driver of the car has been taken to an east London hospital with non life threatening or changing injuries.

“The ambulance was on an emergency call and had two occupants inside at the time of the crash.”

They were later taken to hospital in another ambulance, she added.

Roads have been closed and diversions are in place while a clean-up effort begins.

The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
