Southwark Roman sarcophagus find is ‘remarkable’

Experts have described the excavation of a 1,600-year-old Roman sarcophagus in Southwark as an “incredibly remarkable find”.

Archaeologist Jill King said it probably belonged to someone of great wealth as it was buried in a prestigious place beside the Roman road.
