A police van flipped onto its side after crashing while answering an early morning 999 call in north-east London.

Paramedics rushed to the scene of the smash in Stoke Newington, which involved another van, at about 6.45am on Wednesday.

Dramatic pictures show an ambulance and at least three police cars at the scene as the police van lies on its side in the middle of the road.

Stoke Newington Road has been closed in both directions after the incident, which happened at the junction with Arcola Street.

A Met Police spokesman said: “There are no reports of any serious injuries.

“Two police officers and one male member of the public – the driver of the van – are being taken to hospital as a precaution. The road remains closed.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

The van was answering an emergency call following a dispute where threats of violence had been made, Scotland Yard said.
