Residents of a Texas nursing home who were the centre of an online rescue plea after being stuck in chest-deep floodwater have been pictured safe and dry.

The shocking image, taken at the Vita Bella care home, showed 15 pensioners floating in wheelchairs and armchairs after the entire building was flooded amid Storm Harvey chaos.

Timothy McIntosh, the son-in-law of the care home owner, shared the image in a plea for assistance, writing “need help asap emergency services please RETWEET” in a post that quickly went viral.

On Wednesday, he shared another image of the group sat in their new accommodation and dressed in warm clothes, writing: “The happy ending after all.”

Officials had previously confirmed that everyone inside the care home, many of whom are wheelchair bound or reliant on oxygen, had been airlifted to safety by emergency crews.

Mr McIntosh also shared a picture of the care home cat Bozo, who was spotted in the background of the flooding chaos, reassuring concerned followers that he was “saved as well” and had been taken to a house.
