A Russian stunt biker with a huge Instagram following has died in a motorcycle crash in Vladivostok, according to local media.

Tributes poured in for Olga Pronina, a 40-year-old self-described “moto girl” known for posting daredevil videos of terrifying bike tricks – often wearing little in the way of protective gear – online.

Ms Pronina was also known for scantily clad model-style shoots posing with her bikes, sometimes while doing the stunts.

The social media star, who had at least 130,000 followers on Instagram by the time of her death, was riding a high-end BMW motorcycle when she crashed, according to Russian news site

She was said to have lost control of the bike and been thrown into a fence.

Ms Pronina, who went by the pseudonym Monika9422 and talked of reaching speeds of up to 155 mph, told her Instagram fans she loved the thrill of riding and that she took the risks consciously.

“I’m a big girl and I know what I’m doing,” she wrote.

She also posted pictures of herself posing with automatic weapons alongside the caption: “My toy.”

Valery Volodarsky, leader of the Russian Samurais biker club, told that in her 21-year riding career, Ms Pronina had won his respect.

“She was a brave and courageous girl, which among women is a rarity,” he said, adding that he thought motorcyclists ought to stick to traffic laws to avoid accidents.

Motorcycle clubs are a prominent part of popular culture in Russia, where President Vladimir Putin has described nationalist biker gang the Night Wolves as his “friends”.

Ms Pronina leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter.
