Two men, including a 31-year-old from south west London, were killed when a 4×4 ploughed into pedestrians in Sussex.

The Nissan Pathfinder struck several people as they walked along a country lane on Saturday evening, police said. 

The man from Wimbledon and another from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, both died at the scene of the crash just off the B2192 outside Ringmer, East Sussex.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Tragically two of the pedestrians, a man from Wimbledon, south west London, and a man from Tunbridge Wells, both aged 31, died at the scene.” 

A 28-year-old woman, also from Wimbledon and a 27-year-old woman, from Surrey, both suffered minor injuries.

Three others, including a 31-year-old woman from Sutton, a 24-year-old woman from Morden and a man, 29, from Addlestone escaped unhurt.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old woman from Uckfield, also escaped uninjured.
