Two local police officers, one with the London police and the other with the OPP, are charged in the September 2016 death of a woman.
OPP Const. Mark McKillop and London police Const. Nicholas Doering are charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life, Ontario’s police watchdog announced Thursday.
Debra Chrisjohn, 39, died after being arrested Sept. 7, 2016, the watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, said in a press release.
London police were called to Trafalgar Street and Highbury Avenue North in the late afternoon that day, and arrested her.
She was transferred on an outstanding warrant into the custody of Elgin County OPP, the SIU says. At 7:52 p.m. that day, OPP officers transported Chrisjohn to St. Thomas Hospital.
She was pronounced dead at 8:43 p.m., the SIU says.
The officers are to appear in court July 31.
The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
