Chatham-Kent OPP have charged a 33-year-old Illinois man after he was clocked by radar driving more than 140 km/hr near Charing Cross Road around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

OPP said the accused was driving where the speed limit is 100 km/hr, but is where eastbound Highway 401 begins to merge into one lane through the construction zone where the speed limit is reduced.

It was also noted workers were present in the construction zone as the vehicle approached at a high rate of speed.

The accused has been charged with careless driving, driving a motor vehicle in contravention of conditions contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and failing to surrender permit for motor vehicle.
