TORONTO –

A Queen St. W. baklava shop is under fire after video was posted online over the weekend of mice chomping down on its baked goods in the window.

“It was disgusting because when I looked more I saw some mouse feces around the trays,” Mohammad Valipour, who recorded the rodents in action with his cellphone Saturday night, told CTV News.

However, the owner of Meli Baklava and Chocolate Bar, near John St., told CTV the treats were for display only and not to be served to customers.

“We would never serve anything that’s not fresh,” Julie Kyriakaki said.

Still, she admitted to CTV she had mousetraps all around her shop as there is an ongoing rodent problem in the building, which is also home to other food vendors. Going forward, she said, she will cover all the food that’s exposed for display.

In the video you can hear several voices, including a male who says: “We got to shut this place down, bro,” while a green Toronto Public Health “pass” sign is prominently displayed in the front window.
