Known for retro-blues/rock numbers such as I Don’t Know and The Way It Is, the Sheepdogs are among the acts slated to appear at Western Fair in September.

The Saskatoon-based band will hit the main stage Sept. 14. An opening act will be announced closer to the date.

In 2011, the Sheepdogs were featured on the cover of Rolling Stone, the first unsigned act ever to do so. Tthe honour came after beating 15 other groups in a contest to be photographed for the magazine’s front.

Their albums include Learn & Burn and Five Easy Pieces, which was produced by Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney.

Western Fair runs Sept. 8-17.

Also on the bill are 54-40, Locash and Cam.

Stalwart London rocker Sarah Smith opens for 54-40 Sept. 8.

Prices for main stage tickets range from $20 to $40, depending on the act.

“Concerts have been an integral part of the fair, creating a unique experience for fairgoers as they step off the midway and make memories for generations of attendees,” Western Fair said in a statement.

“The annual Western Fair has also been a breeding ground for talent, as acts who have performed on Western Fair’s stage have carried on to be big names in the music industry,” it went on to say.
