Former prosecutor Nazir Afzal has told Sky News what he believes can be done to tackle the problem of knife crime.
Mr Afzal is the uncle of Hazrat Umar who was fatally stabbed in Birmingham. The 18-year-old was one of three victims who were murdered in the West Midlands within a fortnight, sparking a “national emergency” in the UK.
The UK as a whole has seen a surge in violence. At least 35 people are suspected to have been deliberately stabbed to death since the start of 2019.
