A young girl was taken to hospital Friday after a four-floor fall from an escalator in a downtown London mall.

London police and EMS responded to the call in the main atrium of Citi Plaza, the former Galleria London.

Witnesses say the four-year-old girl was playing around the escalator with about three other kids, grabbing onto the outside of the railing.

The moving railing towed the girl, hanging onto it outside the elevator steps, to the top of the escalator where she ran into a barrier that forced her to fall, said Jerzy Smolarek, who saw the mishap.

She plunged from the second floor of the mall through an open space to the bottom level of the three-level underground parking.

“I walked by and I was going to say not to do that,” Smolarek said of the little girl.

“I heard a scream and I turned around,” he said, adding “I saw her fall.”

To reach the girl, emergency crews broke a glass pane in the underground lot.

More to come.
