A woman who made a heartbreaking final phone call to her brother from Grenfell Tower died in the blaze, her family has confirmed.

Zainab Dean, 32, became trapped on the 14th floor of the tower with her two-year-old son on the night of the tragedy.

Her brother Francis Dean said a firefighter borrowed his phone during the fire to speak to his sister in the early hours of the morning.

The 47-year-old previously told of how the firefighter passed the phone back him and told him “tell her you love her”.

He said: “I knew then to fear the worst. The phone went dead and I could not talk to her.”

He said he lost contact with his sister at about 4am.

Ms Deen’s father Zainu and step-mother Maria confirmed on Wednesday that she died in the blaze.

They said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm we have been notified by the police that our daughter Zainab Deen died in the tragic Grenfell Tower fire.

“Zainab has been missing with her son, our grandchild, Jeremiah, who we still await news on.”
